Identification of some lipid peroxides by thin-layer chromatography.
نویسنده
چکیده
Solvent systems are described which permit class separations of various peroxidized lipids by thin-layer chromatography. This procedure has proved useful in biological studies and for testing the deterioration of lipids. Proof is given that the least polar peroxides of methyl esters, glycerides, and fatty acids are monoperoxides; it is then assumed that the least polar peroxides in the other tested groups (cholesterol, cholesterol esters, and phospholipids) are also monoperoxides. The more polar peroxides probably represent highly peroxidized and polymeric forms.

Superoxide, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Singlet Oxygen in Lipid Peroxidation by a Xanthine Oxidase System*
1. Xanthine oxidase acting aerobically upon acetaldehyde was found to cause the peroxidation of linolenate. This was demonstrated by increased absorbance at 233 nm due to diene conjugation and by the detection of a lipid peroxide spot on thin layer chromatograms. 2. Superoxide dismutase inhibited this lipid peroxidation, as did catalase, thus indicating that both O,m and H,O, were essential int...

متن کاملQuantitative micro determination and isolation of plasmalogen aldehydes as 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazones.
A micro spectrophotometric procedure for the quantitative determination of plasmalogen aldehydes is described which utilizes simultaneous methanolysis and formation of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazones. After isolation of the hydrazones by thin-layer chromatography, the aldehydes can be regenerated, reduced, acetylated, and then analyzed by gas-liquid chromatography. Identification of the plasmalogen...

متن کاملSeparation of Long-chain Bases by Thin-layer Chromatography; Instability of Sphingosine.
Purified sphingosine was resolved into dihydrosphingosine, sphingosine, and a fast-moving component by thin-layer chromatography on Silica Gel G. The fast-moving component was generated by the adsorbent, and consisted of a mixture of the cationic forms of dihydrosphingosine and sphingosine. Other sphingosine derivatives gave rise to similar artifacts. Sphingosine formed two degradation products...
